B.M.I. (Body Mass Index) vs. Weight
The BMI is a more accurate method for predicting the risk of being overfat. Also, unlike a standard height and weight chart, the BMI method can predict health risks. BMI charts reflect children’s weight relative to their height. These charts are helpful in tracking a person’s growth from two years of age throughout adulthood.
The most important thing to remember when you're reading growth charts is that they are just screening tools. The percentile number they give you is a clue, not a diagnosis. The number tells the parent and the doctor whether a child's situation merits "no concern," "some concern," or "serious concern."
